All arrangements have been concluded for Kano Pillars to make their first appearance at this year’s President Beach Volleyball Cup.

In an exclusive interview with www.aclsports.com, the Captain of Kano Pillars beach volleyball team, Godwin Shekarau said Kano State Sports Commission has been supportive during their build up to the President Cup.

Shekarau who won the President Cup with OMIGuard team in 2022 said defending his title with Kano Pillars is his main priority.

He said, “This season I will be playing for Kano pillars. We have advanced preparation towards the President’s Cup, from the office of the Chairman Kano state sports commission to the coach.

“The support of the Kano State Sports Commission has been immense to ensure that we have all the needed support towards having a successful outing. The players have been putting in their best on the court during training to ensure that we do not disappoint.”

“We know that it will not be an easy competition this year as a result of the rise in the level of play of other players. But we hope that we are going to play more technically and hopefully have an edge over others”, he told www.aclsports.com

Shekarau revealed that the injury sustained at the 2022 Super Cup in Lagos, ruled him out of the beach volleyball season.

He said, “I was absent during the 2022 National Beach Volleyball Tour as a result of an injury I sustained during the 2022 Super Cup in Lagos which sidelined me for over 6 months.

“I only had a brief cameo performance during the last phase of the beach tour in Kaduna where I stood in for Dauda Saje who got injured a few days before the start of the final phase. I hope my return this year will be better than last years performance”.

On invitation to the camp ahead of International Championships, Shekarau said, “I believe that my performance in this year’s President’s Cup will give me the opportunity to show how much I have recovered from my injury.

“I hope the national coaches will see that also and invite me to represent this great nation. Generally, I feel good all round and I have faith that I am going to play in an international championship”.

Godwin Shekarau and Michael Digil will play for Kano Pillars beach volleyball team at the 4th edition of the President Beach Volleyball Cup scheduled for 13th to 19th February, 2023 at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna State.
