Nigerian forward Junior Ajayi netted twice to inspire his Egyptian side Al Ahly to a 3-2 win over local rivals Zamalek in the Egyptian Super Cup match on Friday.

Ajayi scored once in each half as Ahly raced to a 3-0 lead in the Super Cup match which is the traditional curtain raiser for the 2019/20 Egyptian Premier League.

Reigning league champions Ahly went in front in the 20th minute when the former Shooting Stars striker powered home Ali Maaloul’s corner emphatically, leaving Zamalek goalkeeper Mohammed Awad with no chance.

Ahly doubled their lead late in the first half through El-Shahat who pounced on a defensive blunder to score.

Junior Ajayi then completed his brace five minutes after the restart when he finished home Ramadan Sobhi’s square pass to give Ahly a 3-0 lead.

Zamalek however pulled two goals back late on courtesy of well taken penalties by Mohammed Alaa who beat Mohammed El-Shennawy in the Ahly goal from twelve yards in the 62nd and 75th minute.

Ahly though held on for the final fifteen minutes to claim an eleventh Super Cup title.

Both teams will open their league campaigns on Monday with Ahly facing Smouha while Zamalek trade tackles with Ittihad Alexandria.
