Tunisia goalkeeper Mouez Hassen and midfielder Youssef Msakni will play no part in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations third place match against Nigeria on Wednesday due to injuries.

The Tunisian FA made the announcement via its official website on Tuesday but the Carthage Eagles coach Alain Giresse sparked confusion during his pre-match press conference when he said he was not aware the two players would be absent against the Super Eagles.

“I am not aware of the absence of the two players. Where is that news coming from?” he asked.

According to the FA, Hassen, who suffered a head collision during the semi-final against Senegal, will observed the mandatory 10 days rest while Msakni will be sidelined for 15 days following an abductor sprain.

Tunisia were defeated by Senegal 1-0 after extra in the semi-finals while Nigeria fell to Algeria 2-1 at the same stage.

The Carthage Eagles and the Super Eagles will lock horns in the third-place match at the Al Salam Stadium in Cairo on Wednesday.
