The President of Handball Federation of Nigeria, Sam Ocheho has heaped praises on the Nigeria U18 Girls team for winning the IHF U18 Girls Trophy (Zone 3).

Nigeria defeated Benin Republic 42 to 17 goals on the final day of the just concluded IHF U18 Girls Trophy (Zone 3) in Accra, Ghana on Saturday.

Ocheho told www.aclsports.com that he saw a lot of improvement in the team from the first to four matches. He attributed the performance of the team to various local championships attended in the last two years

Ocheho said, “It was a great performance for the girls because over 80 percent of them had their first cap at this tournament. “We saw a lot of improvement in the team from match one to four. I am personally impressed with what I saw in Ghana this evening”.

“The various championships in Nigeria gave the girls a great platform to showcase their skills and they took this to the international stage. We will keep doing our best to organise more championships as it has been a breeding ground for discovering talents”, Ocheho told www.aclsports.com

Ocheho who doubles as the President of Confederation of African Handball (CAHB) Zone 3 said the current crop of U18 players are promising, urging them to remain focused.

He said, “The girls look like a team we can keep and blend for the future. Loads of promising talents and after we report to the board, decisions will be taken on next steps but I assure you the team is promising

“I surely see some of these young girls plying their trade outside the shores of Africa as long as they remain focused and keep training. They are still learning and we can only keep encouraging them”

He said, “The technical crew met the target set which was to win the championship. They will now go back and prepare for the continental stage”.
