It was a day of incredible results in the handball event (women category) of the ongoing 22nd National Sports Festival in Ogun State, as Sokoto State humbled favourites Edo State 22-20 in a thrilling encounter on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The side from the Caliphate went ahead early in the contest, and led 12-8 at halftime at the Alake Sports Center in Abeokuta. Despite a late comeback from the Edo State side, the Sokoto side held on to clinch a first win at the event.

In other matches decided, Lagos were too strong for Bauchi, as they claimed a 33-13 win to continue their strong run in the competition. The Centre of Excellence side led 19-5 at halftime, before getting more in the second half to claim a routine win.

In the contest between Delta and Oyo States, it was a thrilling encounter that left fans entertained. The Pacesetter State team won 35-34 after overturning a 13-14 halftime deficit with incredible zeal and determination.

On the other hand, the hosts – Team Ogun female handball team – qualified for the next round, beating Plateau state 35-25. Team Ogun defeated Kogi in the first match 32-20 on Tuesday.

More action will continue on Thursday before the next round of matches.
