Rivers, Lagos, and Oyo States were the biggest winners during the weightlifting events at the ongoing 2024 NSF in Ogun State, tagged “Gateway Games 2024”, www.aclsports.com reports.

Ruth Nyong, who represented Rivers State, and African Champion, Omolola Onome Didih of Lagos State, delivered strong performances to ensure their respective states claimed medals in the event that took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Sagamu.

In the Women’s 49kg class, Nyong won two gold medals and one silver medal. She lifted 75kg to claim gold in the snatch and got the second gold in her total lift of 167kg. Nyong also secured an additional silver medal with her 92kg lift in the Clean & Jerk, as Ebele Chukwu Vanessa Agbah of Delta State took gold in the Clean & Jerk with her 93kg lift and a Silver medal with her lift of 164kg.

Gold medallist at the African Games, Omolola Onome Didih of Lagos, won two gold medals in the snatch and total with her lifts of 93kg and 205kg in that order in the women’s 55kg category. However, she could only win silver in the clean and jerk, with Theresa Daniel Okon of Akwa Ibom State claiming gold.

In the women’s 55kg division, Commonwealth champion Rofiat Lawal won three gold medals for Oyo State.

Other winners of the day include: Temidayo Jegede (Kano State) won two silver medals and a bronze medal, while Joy Chima (Lagos) took the remaining two bronze medals with her lifts of 71kg and 168kg in the snatch and total. Quadri Zainab (Lagos) grabbed a silver with her lift of 72kg, while Adamma Dorcas Anyimba (Kano) got a bronze with her lift of 71kg, and Monica Uweh (Ogun State) took bronze in the Clean & Jerk with her 88kg lift for the host state’s first medal of the festival.

In the Men’s 55kg category, King Kalu won three gold medals for Cross River with a total lift of 215kg. Elechi Nnadozie Elvis (Bayelsa State) claimed silver, while Abayomi Adeleye (Ekiti State) took bronze.

Tobi Ishola (Oyo State) claimed a silver medal in the Clean & Jerk with a lift of 118kg, and a bronze medal to add to the Pacesetter State’s haul on the medals table. John Solomon (Bayelsa State) won a bronze medal in the Clean & Jerk with a lift of 117kg and a silver medal with a lift of 207kg in his total.
