Rwanda have named Adel Amrouche as the men’s national team’s new head coach ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, www.aclsports.com reports.
The Algerian tactician, who led Tanzania to the last Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire, will return to the dug out after his reinstatement following the annulment of his initial eight-match suspension imposed on him by CAF.
The Rwandese Federation of Association Football (FERWAFA) have now confirmed his appointment for an unspecified period of time. He comes in as Frank Torsten’s replacement whose contract was not extended in December 2024. In addition, Eric Nshimiyimana and Calorin Braun will join him as assistant coaches.
Amrouche currently serves as an expert overseeing the development of sports federations at FIFA under the guidance of Arsène Wenger. It remains to be seen whether Amrouche will leave this role or if an agreement has been reached to manage both roles.
In the immediate, he will lead Rwanda against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in the 2026 World Cup Qualifier on March 17 and also Lesotho on March 24 at Amahoro Stadium. The Amavubi are top of the Group C with 7 points and the Super Eagles have just 3 points.
