Former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has landed a coaching role after failing to find a new club in the ongoing PSL campaign in South Africa, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 39-year-old goalie has been a free agent since leaving South African top-flight side Marumo Gallants at the end of last season.

Although he revealed he was still looking for a new club back in June, the former Warri Wolves goalkeeper has now received a coaching role in the developmental division.

“I have my CAF D Coaching Licence in hand, and very soon I will upgrade as I am ready to take on the next challenge and transition into coaching,” Akpeyi told FARPost back in October.

Now, Akpeyi has found a new home at the newly promoted Gauteng Development League (GDL) outfit Future of Africa, where he has been appointed new goalkeeper coach.

Akpeyi first moved to South Africa in July 2015, and he turned out for Kaizer Chiefs, Chippa United, as well as Moroka Swallows in the South African top-flight division. The 2019 Africa Cup of Nations bronze winner made well over 200 appearances in all competitions in his playing career in the Rainbow Nation.

The experienced shot-stopper, who also hopes to upgrade his coaching licenses, is expected to bring stability and guidance to his new club as he steps into the next phase of his career.
