John Obi Mikel and Henry Onyekuru were on target at the weekend, with Oghenekaro Etebo ending his first season in England on a high.

Eagles in Europe recaps the performance of Super Eagles players as curtains begin to draw on some leagues in Europe.

Mikel nets first Boro goal as Ajayi suffers relegation

It was not so much of a memorable day for Mikel despite scoring his first goal for Middlesbrough in the English second division.

The Super Eagles captain netted a superb goal for his side in a 2-1 win at Rotherham United, who were complete with Semi Ajayi.

Despite the goal, Mikel and Boro missed out on the playoffs by a point, while Ajayi’s Rotherham was relegated.

John Obi Mikel has now scored as many goals in the Championship as he managed in 249 Premier League games (1).

A sad end to the season for Ajayi, whose goals were not enough to save his club from the drop.

The 25-year-old defender scored seven goals this season, and assisted another goal.

Oghenekaro Etebo was named Stoke City player of the year as they ended their 2018/2019 campaign with a 2-2 draw at home to Sheffield United.

Etebo played for 90 minutes in that game, completing two take-ons, one tackle and two interceptions.

In the English Premier League, Alex Iwobi and Success Isaac were both involved for their clubs in their penultimate games of the season.

Both came on as substitutes, Iwobi played for 13 minutes as a Leon Balogun-less Brighton and Hove Albion ended Arsenal’s Champions League hope via the league following their 1-1 draw at the Emirates.

For Success, he saw just seven minutes of action in Watford’s 3-0 thrashing by Chelsea.

Super Eagles trio star in LaLiga

In Spain, Kenneth Omeruo helped Leganes to an emphatic win in the LaLiga, keeping a clean sheet against Sevilla.

Leganes went, saw and conquered Sevilla 3-0 at their backyard, with Omeruo shutting out their host’s attackers with nine clearances, two tackles, one interception and two aerial duels won.

Moses Simon impressed for Levante from the bench as they thrashed Rayo Vallecano 4-1.

Simon assisted their fourth goal of the match, creating two chances, in just 11 minutes he spent on the pitch.

Samuel Chukwueze and Villarreal suffered a 3-2 loss at the Bernabeu to Real Madrid with the youngster showing his immense potential once again.

The 19-year-old was the most potent dribbler on the pitch, completing five of seven attempts, the most by any player, while creating one chance.

Elsewhere, Ola Aina was the only Super Eagle in action in the Serie A at the weekend.

Aina played for 12 minutes as Torino held champions Juventus to a 1-1 draw in Turin.

William Troost-Ekong expectedly missed Udinese’s goalless draw at home to Inter Milan. The defender is still out injured.

In other lower leagues in Europe, Victor Osimhen fired blanks in Sporting Charleroi 2-0 home win to St. Truiden, while Paul Onuachu was also caged in Denmark.

The giant striker was kept at bay for the 74 minutes he was on the pitch as Odense defeated his Midtjylland side 3-1.

Jamilu Collins and Paderborn must dig deeper if they are to secure that promotion to the Bundesliga after suffering a setback at the weekend.

Paderborn were beaten 2-0 by Arminia Bielefield with Collins on from start to finish.

And in Turkey, it was joy for Onyekuru as he scored his 13th Super Lig goal of the season for Galatasaray.

Onyekuru opened the scoring for Gala at the weekend before they went on to add a other goal for a 2-0 win over Besiktas.

Bursaspor lost 2-0 at Erzurum with Shehu Abdullahi featuring from start to finish, while it was a 2-2 for Chidozie Awaziem, who picked up his third booking of the season, and  Rizespor at Ankaragucu.
