Diego Costa misses out as David Villa returns for Spain in World Cup qualifiers

The Spanish national team has released a list of 26 players for their world cup European qualifying games against Italy and Liechtenstein.

Notable absentees include Chelsea midfielder, Cesc Fabregas and want away striker, Diego Costa. Costa has however been replaced by David Villa who makes a return to the Spanish national team for the first time since the 2014 world cup.

On Villa’s inclusion, the La Roja head coach, Julen Lopetegui said he trusts him adding that he gives the team mobility and he is eager to help the team.

The full list of 26 players called up for the games include:

Goalkeepers: David De Gea, Pepe Reina, Kepa.

Defenders: Jordi Alba, Marc Batra, Cesar Azpilicueta, Sergio Ramos, Dani Carvajal, Nacho, Monreal, Pique.

Midfielders: Isco, Thiago Alcantara, Sergio Busquets, Suso, Iniesta, Saul Niguez, Koke, David Silva.

Forwards: Pedro, Morata, Aspas, Vitolo, David Villa, Deulofeu, Asensio.
