The Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, and others in Nigeria are set for a cash boost from FIFA as part of COVID-19 relief package, ACLSports.com can confirm.

FIFA’s boost comes as part of a relief fund made available to football federations by the world football governing body.

After the Executive Committee meeting of the NFF via video conferencing last week, the committee acknowledged that FIFA provided $500,000 as COVID-19 relief fund and guidelines on how to use the fund.

“The core areas approved for the utilization in line with the FIFA Forward 2.0 Program include but are not limited to Management and Staff salaries, men’s league, women’s league, ” stated a communique from the meeting made available to www.aclsports.com.

Accordingly, the NFF has since directed its secretariat to put in motion processes that will see that FIFA’s guidelines are followed to the latter.

“(The) Board (has) directed the Secretariat to immediately set machinery in motion to ensure the fund is utilized to the letter as advised by FIFA.”

The domestic leagues are not the only ones expected to benefit from the COVID-19 fund, referees’ development training, National Teams (including boys and girls’ youth teams), office operations, renovations and furnishing of Bauchi NFF/FIFA Technical Centre, will get a share.
