Head coach and owner of Robo Queens, Osahon Emmanuel, says consistency is the watchword as his team aim to maintain their strong start to the 2025/26 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership season, www.aclsports.com reports.
Speaking after Robo Queens’ 2-0 win over Delta Queens on Wednesday, Osahon reflected on the challenges his team have faced this season, particularly injuries.
“In the first half, we were just lost, but I thank God that after talking to the girls, they came back and got the result,” he said.
“Our team is haunted by injuries. In the first match against Sunshine Queens, most of the players were injured. I could not register many because the NWFL limits teams to using no more than five underage players, but we managed the crisis, and thankfully, the players came back in the second half to secure the win.”
Osahon expressed his excitement about the victory: “I am so excited. I do not plan or pray to play for a draw at home. At least if it is one goal, I am all right with that. I am not the kind of person that wants to destroy my opponents; they train and pray too. If God could give us this day our daily bread, I am all right with that.”
After missing out on the Super Six on the final day last season, Robo Queens have made a strong start this term, winning all three of their matches and keeping a clean sheet so far. On the team’s current form, Osahon said:
“It is good, but consistency is the watchword. I am training kids, and they can lose concentration at any time. But right now, they are still in the game. We will manage our crisis, manage our glory, and keep moving forward until we reach our goals.”
The coach also addressed the return of former player Esther Onyenezide, who previously played for Madrid CFF and Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem and has been spotted training with the team:
“Yes, she is back. She lost her father and had contract issues abroad, and there were complications because of the war in Israel. She had to return, and she has not yet been cleared to play. I am focused on rehabilitating her and bringing her back to the spotlight. She is a member of the team, and we want her to regain her confidence. I am just waiting for her to be cleared before she starts playing.”
