Badminton: Nigeria to play 6 semifinals at African Games

Nigeria has qualified for 6 semifinals events in the badminton events at the ongoing 13th African Games in Ghana.

Nigeria’s Anuoluwapo Juwon Opeyori, Godwin Olofua and Victor Ikechukwu are through to the semifinals of the men’s singles played at the Borteyman Sports Complex on Saturday.

Opeyori defeated Adel Hamek (Algeria) 2-1, Victor Ikechukwu beat Caden Kakora (South Africa) while Olofua beat Paul Julien 2-1 (Mauritius).

The pair of Anuoluwapo Opeyori and Godwin Olofua defeated Uganda’s Augustus Owinyi and Expendito Emmudu 2-0 in the men’s doubles event.

An elated Godwin Olofua told www.aclsports.com that he feels excited beating the number one seeded player in the event.

Olofua revealed that he is happy to better his performance after a poor outing at the 2024 Egypt International Championships.

In the women’s singles, Dorcas Adesokan defeated Tracy Naluwooza (Uganda) 2-1 to qualify for the semifinals while Sofiat Obanisola lost to Fadila Mohammed 1-2 in the quarterfinal match.
