Antoine Griezmann has been handed a two-match for his use of foul language during Atletico Madrid’s 2-2 draw with La Liga new comers, Girona FC in the league opener last weekend.

The Frenchman was initially cautioned for diving in the second half, with his side trailing 2-0, but received a second yellow seconds later in protest against the first booking by uttering some foul words to referee, Martinez Munera, who didn’t waste time in giving the forward his marching orders.

Griezmann’s actions have been reviewed and considered “unjustifiable” and an act of “contempt and disregard” towards the match official, Munera, by the disciplinary committee of the Royal Spanish Football Federation.

So, the 27-year-old, who was also fined €600, will miss Atletico’s matches against Las Palmas Valencia, while his club was also fined €700 for failing to control their player.
