Athletics Federation of Nigeria rolls out 2020 programs

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has released a list of 17 events for her athletes before the commencement of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games billed for July 31 – August 9, 2020.

The 2020 Nigerian athletics calendar opens with the biggest race in Nigeria – the Lagos City Marathon on February 8. This will be closely followed by the AFN All Comers Athletics Competition in Asaba, Delta state on the 13th and 14th of February, 2020.

This will then be followed by the first phase of camping ahead of the World Indoor Athletics Championship taking place in Nanjing, China from the 13th -15th of March. The camping will take place in Port Harcourt from February 16 – March 16, 2020.

Thereafter, the 1st AFN Athletics Meet for the year will take place in Lagos on the 18th and 19th of March just before the National Sports Festival in Benin City, Edo state which has been scheduled for March 22 – April 1, 2020.

Nine days after the National Sports Festival, the second phase of camping will commence in Kaduna from April 10 to May 10 while the 1st Uche Isaac Athletics Competition comes up on April 11 at the Yaba College of Technology Mini Stadium, Lagos.

Again, Kaduna state will host this year’s CAA Region II Athletics Championship from April 14-19, while the Dr Awoture Eleyae U-16 and U-18 Athletics Competition will hold in Ozoro, Delta state from May 3rd – 5th.

Then it’s abck to Edo State for the Okpekpe International 10km Road Race on the 23rd of May before all attention moves to Abuja on May 26th for the National Trials for the Olympic Games which will end on the 31st of May.

After the National Trials, athletes will move to Germany and Spain for the 3rd phase of camping which will last for one month. This will be followed by the 22nd CAA African Senior Championships in Algeria from June 24th – 28th.

There will also be the World Athletics U-20 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya from July 7th – 12th with the Olympic Games commencing less than 20 days later.
