Ardova League: Delta Queens stun Grasshoppers in opener

Delta Queens produced a remarkable performance to beat Imo Grasshoppers by 25 to 20 goals in the women’s opening match at the 2023 Ardova Handball Premier League in Benin, Edo State on Sunday.

Imo Grasshoppers led the first half by two goals (13 to 11) before Delta Queens turned around the game in the second half with a surprise win.

The duo of Damilola Akinlade and Grace Gbamire thrilled the fans and dazzled the defence line of Imo Grasshoppers in the last 10 minutes of the game.

The head coach of Delta Queens, John Uzor told www.aclsports.com that his side were fortunate to win the match against Imo Grasshoppers.

Uzor who admitted Imo Grasshoppers were an experienced team said his side did not relent despite losing the first half.

He said, “I want to give Glory to God for this deserved victory against an experienced Imo Grasshoppers.My girls played against a very experienced side but Delta Queens were fortunate to win the match.

“During the first half break, I told the girls to give their best when they enter the court for the second half and I am happy they made me proud”.

Uzor said his girls will take their next match against Bendel Dynamos with all level of seriousness. He said, “The idea I have is to take each game as they come and we’ll give it a shot till we get to the last match.”

Delta Queens signed Six players Faidat Muradeke, Damilola Akinlade, Grace Gbamire, Idayat Badmus, Habibat Ismail and Mariam Ojo.
