Afrobasket Women: D’Tigress through to Quarter Finals

African Champions D'Tigress humiliated Democratic Republic of Congo 79-46 to reach the semi-finals of the FIBA Women's Afrobasket 2019 in Dakar, Senegal on Thursday.

Reigning champions D’Tigress mauled the Lionesses of Cameroon 106-39 in their second Group B game to advance to the Quarter Finals of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2019 in Dakar Senegal on Tuesday.

Both teams had earlier beaten Tunisia in their opening games but it was Cameroon who looked uninterested to maintain their impressive start.

The D’Tigress started strongly in the first quarter 21-7 and further took a commanding 26 point lead going to the break (49-23).

The Africa Champions compounded more woes on the Lionesses in the second half as they extended lead to 60 points with 1:29 minutes remaining (99-39).

The D’Tigress had more points in the pain 52-8 and got more help from the bench recording 51 points against 11 scored by Cameroon from the bench.

Five players finished on double figures for Nigeria as they combined to score 68 points; Promise Amukamara (14), Aisha Mohammed Balarabe (14) in her last AfroBasket Women, Adaora Elonu (14), Ezinne Kalu (12) and Ify Ibekwe (14).

Elonu added 8 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal, Balarabe contributed 6 boards and 1 steal while Amukamara got off the bench to add 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals in 19 minutes.

Amina Njonkou had 16 points and 8 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 assist to go with it.

Nigeria join Mali, Mozambique and host Senegal to advance to the Quarter Finals of the FIBA Women’s Afrobasket 2019.
