Mozambique midfielder Ricardo Martins Guimarães, commonly known as Guima, is confident that his side have enough weapons to worry the Super Eagles of Nigeria in their AFCON 2025 round of 16 clash on Monday, www.aclsports.com reports.

The Mambas, who made history by reaching the second round for the first time in their history, will face off with the three-time AFCON winners for a place in the last eight in Fes on Monday night.

“I don’t think this is the biggest motivation for me.”

Speaking to journalists before their final training session on Monday, the veteran midfielder spoke about the importance of the game and how ready the side is.

”[on clash with Nigeria] that makes it history,” Guima began.

“It is important for us, as we have a very good match tomorrow (Monday) to face, and we are ready for sure. We are confident, like the others. Nigeria is a big team; we played in the group stages against big teams. So, we are confident, and we will show ourselves on the pitch,” the Zira midfielder added.

After watching 10-man Mali edge Tunisia on Saturday night, Guima played down any talk of inspiration, insisting the clash with Nigeria had no bearing on his own team’s challenge. However, he admitted his side possesses the tools to trouble the Super Eagles.

”Different teams, different games. Every game here is an opportunity because we have stages. One thing here is like kill to kill. So, it will be a very good match, I think. Nigeria is a great team with good players; we have our weapons too, and our good players too. So, tomorrow I hope it will be a great game,” Guima concluded.

Mozambique and Nigeria will clash for a place in the quarterfinals on Monday in Fes. Kick-off time is 8pm (local time/Nigerian time).
