It was a memorable evening for the duo of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, as they led their respective teams to comfortable victories in the La Liga.

Ronaldo scored twice as Real Madrid defeated Alaves 4-0 at the Bernabeu.

The brace moved the Portuguese to 300 La Liga goals, becoming just second player in the league’s history to score 300goals.

Further goals from Gareth Bale and Karim Benzema, who scored from the spot, helped Los Blancos to cement their third position on the table in style.

The home side had chances to score even more goals, but did enough to record a solid win that means they have now won five consecutive games, with focus now shifted to the game at Espanyol in midweek.

Suarez’s hattrick completes incredible comeback win for Barcelona

Uruguay International, Luis Suarez became the sixth all-time top scorer in Barcelona history following his heroics against Girona.

Suarez scored a hattrick as the La Liga leaders came from behind to beat Girona 6-1 at Camp Nou.

A brace from Lionel Messi, and Philippe Coutinho’s first goal for Barca completed the rout against Girona, who took a shock lead via Cristian Portu, in what was their first visit to Camp Nou.

Suarez wasn’t the only history maker on the night, however, as Lionel Messi wouldn’t be left behind by his team mate.

Messi’s assist for Suarez’s first goal of the evening, and Barca’s equaliser, was his 148th assist in the league,  setting a new  La Liga record for assists.

Meanwhile, with his two goals against the visitors, the Argentine has now scored against 36 different clubs in La Liga, more than any other player.

For Barcelona, not only did they extend their lead at the top to ten points, but Ernesto Valverde’s side also set a new club record of 32games in the league without a defeat.
