Niger Flickers’ goalkeeper, Yakubu Dakumi was the hero of the game saving two penalty strokes against El Sharkia Club of Egypt to help the Nigerian Champions stay unbeaten at the ongoing Africa Cup for Club Champions in Accra, Ghana.

Dakumi made the first save in the first quarter of the game before making the second in the last minute of the fourth quarter to give his side a deserved point in their second game of the competition.

After an entertaining one hour of hockey game, both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

After the game, right wing back of El Sharkia Club of Egypt, Ezz El Din Ahmed was disappointed his side failed to utilise their opportunities.

“We did didn’t play well like we did on Saturday. We missed a couple of penalty strokes, we had many chances to kill the game off but it did not happen. Our focus now is on our next game  and hopefully we can get something out it,”said Ezz El Din Ahmed.

Coach of Niger Flickers, Nuhu Jatau said the youthfulness in the team played a huge role in their performance but he is now focused on their next game against GRA Men of Ghana at 7pm Nigerian time.

’’I am expecting a fight from GRA this evening, it is not going to be an easy game but I can assure Nigerians that we shall take nothing for granted and by the grace of God, victory will be ours,”said Nuhu Jatau.

In the other games played on Sunday, Nigerian Police yet again lost, this time to Trustees of Ghana 3-0 while defending champions Eastern Company of Egypt were held to a 1-1 draw by GRA men of Ghana.

In the women’s event, Bomiegha Ikiriko scored the decisive goal as Nigerian Champions Kada Queens pipped rivals Yobe Desert Queens by a lone goal to get their first victory of the competition. Elsewhere, defending champions Telekom of Kenya made it two wins out of two after edging fellow Kenyan side Strathmore by a lone goal. It was the same score line between two Ghanaian teams, Police Club and GRA women. It ended 1-0 in favour of GRA Women.
