Athletics: Delta State Government ready to host Africa

Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa has confirmed readiness of Asaba to host the African Senior Athletics Championship billed for August this year.

The Governor, was on a facility tour at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba to inspect the ongoing work on Thursday. The 22,000 sitting capacity Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba, will be used for the upcoming championship.

Speaking to journalists after the inspection, Governor Okowa said he is confident the Stadium will be ready to host the Athletics Championship in August.

“We are ready to host Africa because the championship will make people from different parts of Africa to gather in our state. It will be a thing of joy for us to host Africa.”

“The benefits of hosting the championship cannot be quantified, don’t forget sports is a unifying factor all over the world and that unity, peace and love for one another will be celebrated during the championship,”said Okowa

The Governor further added that an additional parking space for the stadium will be developed inside the Anglican Girls Grammer school, Asaba located opposite the stadium across the Nnebisi road.

Former President of the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the championship, Solomon Ogba was on ground to show the governor round the facilities alongside top officials of the state government, especially those of the Delta State Sport Commission.
