No player will ever wear the jersey number 23 in Science Park High School, New Jersey as they retired the number in honour of D’Tigress star, Ezinne Kalu last week.

The 2017 Afrobasket winner made her national debut last year at the Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament in Nantes, France. Kalu will be remembered for her brilliant performance against South Korea as she knocked down a game-winning shot to put Nigeria 70-69 after missing all five previous attempts from down the arc in the game.

25 year old Kalu becomes the first woman to have her jersey number retired in the school’s history after scoring over 2000 points during her career at the school.

On her facebook page she said, “History was made!!! I am the 1st woman to have a jersey retired in the school’s history! Thank you everyone for the love and support!! And thank you to my Science Park High School family!   #Groundbreaking #JerseyRetired #NUMBER23.

Kalu also had words for the young girls playing for Science Park High School at the retirement ceremony which was held at the school basketball gym.

“My fellow lady chargers! Anything is possible. Stay dedicated. Never get discouraged and more importantly never give up on your dreams. I am a living testimony that you can accomplish anything in life when you work hard and even harder when you are told you can’t. You are responsible for your success! I love you girls!!
