Defending champions InterClube brushed aside First Bank 92-79 points to top Group A on Wednesday at the ongoing FIBA Africa Champions Cup Women 2017 at Kilamba Arena, Angola.

Italee Lucas led the way for InterClube with 20 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 4 steals, Nigerian-born Ndidi Madu scored a double-double, 12 points and 12 rebounds. Felizarda Jorge , Nguendula Filipe and N. Michael made 17, 13, and 11 points respectively. First Bank recorded their second loss in two years to the Angolan side who defeated them in semi-final of the 2016 edition.

Nkechi Akashili’s best efforts couldn’t prevent defeat

First Bank’s guard Dominique Wilson hit a game high 22 points while Nkechi Akashili scored 21 points as captain Chioma Udeaja added 13 points and 13 rebounds but was not enough as InterClube proved to be the better of the two sides.

Meanwhile, Primeiro de Agosto overcame an early scare to defeat DC Motema Pembe of DR Congo to remain unbeaten in Group B. While Ferroviario de Maputo from Mozambique defeated Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) 68-34 to finish second in Group B.

Thursday is rest day and action will resume on Friday. First Bank of Nigeria will play against Kenya Ports Authority in the quarter finals.
