Chile midfield enforcer, Arturo Vidal has announced his retirement from international football following his countries inability to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The Bayern midfielder who missed the defeat to already qualified Brazil through suspension, made this announcement via a tweet.
“Thank you lads, for everything. For all these years together, for teaching me and for showing a country that with effort and work anything is possible in life,” he tweeted in Spanish.
Chile lost 3-0 to Brazil thanks to a Gabriel Jesus double and failed to qualify on goal difference after being level on point with Peru.
Vidal had 23 goals in 98 caps (the joint sixth most capped player for Chile) and won two Copa America trophies in 2015 and 2016 with Chile. Chile’s manager, Juan Antonio Pizzi also announced his retirement from the team after Tuesday’s disappointment.
