Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles will face off once again at the Africa Cup of Nations after both former champions were drawn in Group C of the 2025 tournament on Monday night.

Beaten finalist in the last edition, Nigeria will face the Tunisians for the fifth time in the 21st century in Morocco alongside East African rivals Uganda and Tanzania.

Tunisia it was, that ended Nigeria’s tournament at the AFCON 2021 in Cameroon after inflicting a 1-0 loss on the Eagles in the round of 16 game played in Garoua.

Being placed in Group C will bring back memories of Nigeria’s 2013 AFCON success in South Africa as it was the last time that the Eagles played from Group C in the AFCON tournament.

Nigeria will face the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in their tournament opener on December 23 at the Fez Stadium in Fez which will host all of Nigeria’s group stage games. The much anticipated clash with Tunisia will hold four days later.

Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle told reporters after the draws that his focus remains the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers.

“There is no easy team in the AFCON. We need to be focused. I will focus on my players and my team for the games in March. We need to be focused on the World Cup qualifiers and after that in October, we can think about the AFCON,” said the former Mali coach.
