Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has been ruled out of Tuesday’s all-important World Cup qualifying game against South Africa due to injury, www.aclsports.com reports.

Osimhen limped out of Saturday’s win over Rwanda in Uyo in the 35th minute after a dangerous follow-through by a Rwandan defender on the attacker’s shin, leaving head coach Eric Chelle ponderous about his participation on Tuesday.

Super Eagles Media Officer Promise Efoghe communicated on Sunday morning that although doctors felt it was just mere bruises on Saturday night, Osimhen woke up with some discomfort on Sunday morning which made his participation against South Africa impossible.

“Camp update: Team doctor confirmed Victor Osimhen’s injury is a bruise on his Shin. He woke up this morning with discomfort and will not be traveling with the squad to South Africa for Tuesday’s game,” Efoghe wrote to journalists.

The Super Eagles, third on the Group C log need all three points against the Bafana Bafana to retain their hopes of making it through to the Mundial. The Eagles are yet to win a game that Osimhen does not start though.

The player will now return to his Turkish club Galatasaray for further treatment as he now faces a race to be fit for their first UEFA Champions League game against Eintracht Frankfurt on September 18.
