Ivory Coast and Nice striker Elye Wahi has been denied visa into Canada for the 2023 AFCON winners’ 2nd group match against Germany.
Multiple sources report that because of an ongoing investigation into match-fixing allegations while Wahi played for Nice in Ligue 1, which falls foul of Canadian immigration rules, he was not granted visa to enter the country with his Ivorian teammates.
Investigation centres around a suspicious yellow card he picked up in the match against Metz on the 17th of May 2026.
Former Arsenal midfielder, Thomas Partey, was also denied entry into Canada because of his ongoing rape allegation case in England. He was absent in the Black Stars of Ghana dramatic injury-time win over Panama in their opening Group L match in Toronto.
The Ivory Coast already have a win following their own dramatic late win over Ecuador so know that avoiding defeat against Germany guarantees them a place in the Round of 32.
