Ondo state government has concluded plans to host the state wrestlers who won medals at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.

The Commissioner for Sports, Saka Yusuf-Ogunleye made the disclosure in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Yusuf-Ogunleye said Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has given approval for the reception for the Ondo wrestlers where they will be honoured.

“Permit me to equally put on record the support and encouragement government had been giving to sportsmen and women in the state and in awards for outstanding performance”.

Some athletes of Ondo State origin that won medals in the just concluded Commonwealth Games held at Gold Coast, Australia will be celebrated at a later date as Mr Governor has given approval for their reception” Ogunleye said.

The Commissioner said, “It must be placed on record that the athletes from Ondo State got two out of the nine gold medals won by Nigeria during the Commonwealth Games. This could not have been achieved without the constant support from Mr Governor”.

Odunayo Adekuoroye and Aminat Adeniyi won gold medals while Bose Samuel won silver at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
