Lionel Messi was the star as Barcelona yet again successfully defended their Copa Del Rey crown at the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday.

Messi scored one and assisted a further two as Barca routed Sevilla 5-0 to claim their fourth consecutive title.

Manager Ernesto Valverde made ten changes to the team that drew 2-2 at Celta Vigo in their last match.

It proved a masterstroke, as the La Liga leaders were hardly troubled in a rather one sided affair that saw them run riot.

The game was as good as over at the break, as goals from Luis Suarez, who scored a brace, and Messi gave Barca a comfortable 3-0 advantage at half time.

Following the break, Barca would compound Sevilla woes, as they added two more goals courtesy of Andres Iniesta and Philippe Coutinho, who converted a penalty with 20 minutes to go.

A dominant display from Valverde’s side, from start to finish, totally overrunning Sevilla to hand their manager, Valverde, his first title at the club.

The victory means the Blaugrana claim their fourth successive Del Rey crown, and 30th in the history of the club.

Valderde and his team now turn attention to the league, which they currently lead by 11points and are on the brink of wrapping up with few games left.
