Bad news for Tunisian football as the national team playmaker Youssef Msakni announced he would not be going to the 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia after sustaining a serious injury on Saturday.

The 27-year-old midfielder hurt his right knee while playing with his club Al-Duhail against Al-Sailiya in the Qatar Stars League.

According to Tunisian Football Federation, the injury will keep the former Esperance Tunis star from action for several months.

Msakni contributed immensely to the Carthage Eagles’ qualification for the 2018 World Cup, their first since 2006.

Tunisia are housed in Group G alongside Belgium, Panama and England, whom the North Africans will face in their opener on June 18 in the city Volgograd in Russia.
