22 teams register for National Volleyball League

As preparations for the commencement of the first National Volleyball League intensifies, reports from the Media and Publicity committee Chairman of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Mr Kehinde Lamidi reveal that 22 teams have registered for the league which serves off this weekend.

As reported last week here the league will commence with the zonal qualifiers hosted by one of the teams in the various zones. “The military and para-military teams will hold theirs at the Ilorin Township Stadium.

“At the Federal zone: Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Army, Nigeria Immigration, Nigeria Customs and Nigeria Prisons clubs have signified interest,” Mr Lamidi revealed.

“In the North West zone, Kaduna, Kano and Katsina have registered. While Anambra, UCME club and Enugu state have also registered” in the South East zone.

“In the South-South zone, Edo state registered 2 clubs, Famous Spikers and Delta Club have also registered. South West zone registered: Sunshine Spikers of Ondo State, Elite Spikers and Legacy Club of Lagos State as well as Gateway Club of Ogun State,” he added.

Mr Lamidi also noted that “in the North Central zone, Niger and Benue have registered,” while he is “still waiting to hear from the North East.”

He revealed that the South East venue is Anambra while Port Harcourt will play host to the South South teams.

Finally, he revealed that “Friday is for the arrival of the teams while Saturday morning is the technical meeting and there we will determine the fixtures and when we start.”

At the end of the zonal qualifiers, the best 2 teams in each zone plus the best 4 teams in the F.C.T zone will qualify into the round of 16.
