Weightlifting: 7 Nigeria lifters off to IWF World Championship

Seven Nigeria Weightlifters have departed the country for the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship in Uzbekistan.

The 2021 International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship will hold in Uzbekistan from 7th to 17th December, 2021.

The seven athletes consist of five females and two male lifters. The female lifters includes; Stella Kingsley (-49kg), Adijat Olarinoye (-55kg), Folashade Lawal (-59kg), Ogbonne Eze (-71kg) and Taiwo Liadi (-76kg), while the male lifters are;  Emmanuel Appah (-61kg) and Umoafia Edidiong (-67kg).

The coaching crew is led by the Technical Director NWF, Christopher Nwadei and assisted by Helen Asemota.

The Technical Director of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Christopher Nwadei told www.aclsports.com that the championship is a new beginning for athletes who will be at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Nwadei said the weightlifters were given the best camping exercise adding that he is confident the athletes will excel.

Meanwhile, the President of Nigeria Weightlifting Federation, Ibrahim Abdul commended the lifters and officials for their sacrifices during their almost two months camping in Lokoja, Kogi State.

“The federation through the board ensured that you began camping early and I want to appreciate you all for your sacrifices.

“You are all primed for the challenges ahead and the board which I lead will continue to give you and every other athletes and officials of weightlifting the needed support to excel.

“You are Nigeria’s ambassadors in Uzbekistan, therefore compete clean, win clean and bring laurels back to our beloved country,” he said.
