A total of 15 teams consisting of 8 men and 7 women have indicated interest in the first Japa Masters Volleyball Tournament.

The 1st Japa Masters Volleyball Tournament is billed to be held from 22nd to 24th August, 2024 at the outdoor court of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.

Coordinator of the Japa Masters Volleyball Tournament, Genevieve Obuladike said the tournament is aimed at allowing elite players to market themselves.

Obuladike said, “The tournament plans to put players in top shape before the commencement of the Nigeria Premier League. We are aware of the need for players to have more playing time in order to reach their peak.

“We have received entries from participating teams; the tournament is going to be played by 8 men and 7 women’s teams. Nigerians should expect explosive performances from the teams because the players are hungry for competition.

“Japa Masters will create a platform for players to get teams within and outside Africa because talents abound in the country. One of our plans is to ensure these volleyball players get the best clubs outside the shores of the country”.

Obuladike revealed that up to 4 million naira will be won in cash prizes and gifts at the tournament.

“First position in the men and women’s categories will smile home with sum of 1 million naira. Individual awards will be given to outstanding players after the end of the tournament,” she added.
