Super Eagles defender, Igoh Ogbu, has been confirmed to miss Slavia Prague’s UEFA Champions League game against Inter Milan on Tuesday night, www.aclsports.com reports.
Ogbu, 25, had a breakthrough season with the Czech side in the 2024/25 season, but the centre-back has been battling injuries and fitness this season. With the biggest European club competition set to continue this midweek, it has now been confirmed that he will miss the trip to Milan.
Slavia Prague’s head coach, Jindrich Trpisovsky, confirmed the defender’s absence, while stressing that his side wants to win the game at San Siro.
“All those who are healthy and on the roster for the Champions League are going,” the 49-year-old said.
“We will definitely miss Ogbu and Holeš [Tomas], which is a big hit, but young boys like Tomáš Vlček, David Zima, and Štěpán Chaloupek show that they are proficient representatives of these leaders and should replace them well. We’ve been through a virus that should be behind us by now. We believe that it will not affect anyone anymore.”
2019 was the last time the two sides met in a European competition, and that contest finished in a 1-1 draw, but Trpisovsky is aiming for even a better result this time around.
“I’d like to be able to remember that. I would like a better result than with AC. I think Inter have great fans. The last time with AC came to support us, a lot of our supporters. I believe that they will dominate the atmosphere this time and will drive us to a good result.
“We want to win every game. We’re going to Milan for the third time, with Inter and Inter playing a little bit unlucky 1:1 six years ago, when we got a goal in the set-up. Then we played with AC on the San Siro, but there was a red card, so we hope it will work out the third time,” Zdeněk Houštecký concluded.
Ogbu, who appeared for Nigeria at the Unity Cup, has played just four times for Prague this season and has not made any appearance since late August. It remains to be seen whether he can recover to make the Super Eagles list for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers in October.
