Swedish side Kalmar FF, on Wednesday, confirmed the signing of Beyond Limits captain Sodiq Lawal, www.aclsports.com reports.
Sodiq, who turned just 18 a few days ago, has signed a four-year contract with Kalmar FF.
Since the age of 13, Lawal has been developing as a football player at the Ikenne-based Academy, where he wore the team captain’s armband last year when the team won the Gothia Cup after defeating ASEC Mimosas in the final.
Speaking after he was unveiled, an elated Lawal said, ”I am very happy to be here. The team, staff, and coaches have all been incredibly kind to me since I came here, and I am very grateful for this opportunity. I will work hard, listen to the coaches, and do everything for Kalmar FF. I can’t wait to put on the match shirt and play out at Guldfågeln Arena.”
”Sodiq is a young, promising left-back who has a lot of potential. We are very happy that he has chosen Kalmar FF as the club to continue his development in. Sodiq will now have time to adapt to both the environment and football in Kalmar, both in terms of training, matches, and professional life outside of football. All with the ambition over time to be able to grow into a supporting player for Kalmar FF,” said Kalmar’s Sporting Director, Mats Winblad.
Apart from the Gothia Cup, where he excelled, the left-back dazzled in the Creative Championship – a private league – where he won the League and TCC Cup titles. He has also featured in the second tier of Nigerian football – the Nigeria National League.
Sodiq completed his first training at Guldfågeln Arena on Wednesday and will continue preparations with his new club until the Svenska Cupen group stage gets underway in February.
