The Creative Championship League (TCC) will enter its seventh season with a renewed focus on player development, data, scouting and commercial growth, www.aclsports.com reports.
Established in 2020, the TCC League was created with a clear objective of raising the standard of football at the grassroots level while providing young players with a structured and competitive environment to develop their talents. Six seasons later, the competition has grown from an eight-team league into a recognised pathway for players, coaches and clubs seeking to make the step towards the professional game.
One of the TCC League’s most significant achievements has been its role as a development platform. Several clubs have used the competition to give young players valuable senior-level experience, with the league increasingly serving as a bridge between academy football and Nigeria’s professional divisions.
Speaking at a media parley ahead of the new season, TCC Chief Operating Officer Chike Nwoye said the league’s ambitions extend beyond immediate results.
“Doing business in Nigeria is tough. Doing sports business in Nigeria is probably tougher,” Nwoye said, stressing that the strength of the TCC lies in its collective of like-minded private owners. ”Having successive uninterrupted seasons is proof that we are actually doing something very great,” Nwoye added.
In his words, Olumide Ajibolade, one of the founding members of the league and former head coach of Beyond Limits, revealed that the TCC is highly rated beyond the shores of Africa, stressing that they will keep striving for excellence.
“Through the lenses of the European clubs, TCC is top five,” Ajibolade said about how TCC is viewed internationally.
“We must continue to strive for excellence. We must continue to find new ways to strengthen the governance within the league and ensure that the talent pool is very high,” he added.
The 2025-26 campaign produced one of the league’s most notable recent stories as Atlantic Business claimed their first-ever TCC Cup, defeating Dino Sporting Club on penalties in the final. The success highlighted the competition’s growing competitiveness beyond the league title race.
The league’s influence is also evident in the progress of players and clubs that have gone on to compete at higher levels. Beyond Limits, for instance, progressed from the NLO to the NNL and then to the NPFL, demonstrating the TCC ecosystem’s potential to contribute to Nigeria’s wider football pyramid.
According to league records, more than 100 international player movements have been recorded from its ecosystem, with graduates moving into professional football markets across Europe, Africa, Asia and North America.
Ebenezer Akinsanmiro remains one of the most prominent examples of the pathway after progressing from Beyond Limits to Inter Milan, while players such as Tunde Akinsola, Peter Kareem, Seun Akanji, Bidemi Amole and Musa Akinfenwa have also moved on to professional football opportunities.
The league has also supplied players to Nigeria’s youth national teams. Four TCC players — Kparobo Arierhi, Ebenezer Harcourt, Bidemi Amole and Musa Akinfenwa — were part of the Flying Eagles side that won the WAFU B U20 tournament, while seven players associated with the competition have represented Nigeria at U17 level.
The pathway has extended to the senior national-team setup, with Akinsanmiro listed among players connected to the TCC who were included in Nigeria’s squad for the 2025 AFCON.
The TCC has also continued to strengthen its technology infrastructure. Having previously partnered with Wyscout, the league is now adding Hudl’s TITAN GPS performance-tracking technology to its development ecosystem, giving clubs access to physical performance and workload data that can complement traditional scouting and coaching assessments.
For the 2026/27 season, D’Shack and Gaiters will be assessed through the TCC Cup after impressing during the selection process, with their performances potentially determining whether they eventually become part of the league structure.
After six seasons of steady growth, the seventh promises to be more than another chapter. It represents another opportunity for the TCC League to reaffirm its place as an important breeding ground for the next generation of Nigerian football talents.
