Captain Onyinyechukwu Anyanwu was imperious as Lagos Haven Women RLC made it two wins on the trot with a 34-8 beatdown of Kings Women RLC in the Southern Conference of the Nigeria Rugby League on Saturday.

Anyanwu scored two tries and made five conversions in the heavily one-sided affair at Eagles square.

Rukayat Akinade, Muinat Oseni, Vivian Onugha and Baraka Aribidesi also scored tries as Haven consolidated on last week’s 24-0 evisceration of Lagos Rhinos Women’s RLFC.

The women’s league – a first in Nigeria in both Rugby Union and Rugby League codes – debuted last week and runs alongside the men’s league which is in its second season.

Meanwhile, Eko Trinity rebounded from losing to Lagos Haven last time out to beat Lagos Broncos in a thrilling, high-scoring encounter in the men’s league.

Monday Henry was the standout player, completing 8 conversions as Trinity saw off Broncos’ spirited challenge with a 48-24 victory.

Nosa Agwose made 4 conversions, Hanoba Etomi scored two of Trinity tries and Sodiq Oduala and Collins Njoku weighed in with one try apiece in the league’s highest-scoring game this season.

The concluding fixture saw Lagos Rhinos make it two wins on the trot with a narrow 18-16 victory against Kings who suffered their second straight loss.

Kelechi Ekeh, Usman Yahaya and Mubarak Sidi all scored tries for Rhinos with Izu Nwaire and Solomon Alonge propping up the Kings’ losing effort.

The 2021 Nigeria Rugby League men’s champions will emerge from play-offs featuring the top two teams in the Southern and Northern Conferences.

There are currently five teams in the Southern Conference and four in the Northern Conference which is yet to kickoff.
