Rivers United winger Wisdom Samuel has expressed gratitude after scoring his first pair of goals in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) in his side’s 3-0 win over El-Kanemi Warriors on Wednesday, www.aclsports.com reports.
Samuel scored the first and last goals for Finidi George’s men in this rescheduled Match Day 23 game decided at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
In the absence of Timothy Zechariah who had a knock, the former Heartland winger was handed a start and he made the most of it. First, he finished from 20 yards in the 9th minute after receiving a pass from Chijioke Mbaoma.
Mbaoma then doubled the advantage for United from the penalty spot after he was upended by El-Kanemi goalkeeper Idrissu Ibrahim in the 71st minute before Samuel wrapped it up with a ferocious left footed effort in stoppage time.
“It feels amazing to actually score my first goals in the league, not just for Rivers United,” began Samuel to www.aclsports.com after the game.
“I’m grateful (for this moment) because I prayed for it and I waited for it and I worked for it also so it’s a great day for me.”

Wednesday’s win takes Rivers United back to the top of the NPFL table with two games in hand. This development made the day extra special for Samuel.
“That’s the best thing today (going back to the top of the table), that’s the talking point because we wanted to utilise our chances in the outstanding games that we have so we are happy taking these points today,” he added.
Rivers United will next face Bendel Insurance at the same venue on Sunday with a chance to consolidate on their leadership position on the league log.
