NYG: Maria Friday sweeps weightlifting Gold medals

Maria Friday of Akwa Ibom won 3 gold medals in the girl’s 45kg weightlifting event at the ongoing National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara state.

Maria Friday lifted 53kg in the snatch, 60kg in the clean and jerk with a total of 113kg

Aserere Adeola of Oyo state won 2 silver and 1 bronze to finish second while Zaniab Hammed of Osun state won 1 silver and two bronze to finish third position.

Meanwhile, Joy Fadeyi of Edo state and Daniel Yakubu of Delta state won gold medals in the girls and boys Judo event.

Joy Fadeyi defeated Temitope Oluborode of Oyo state in the -32kg girls final while Daniel Yakubu won ThankGod John of Kogi state in the -36kg boys’ final at the educational technology hall at the University of Ilorin.

In the girls’ volleyball event, Host, Kwara state beat Bayelsa state 2-0 (25-8, 25-17) while Kaduna state suppressed Delta state 2-0 (25-18, 25- 22). In the boys’ volleyball event, Plateau state eased pass Delta states 2-0 (25-16, 25-13) while high flying Akwa Ibom came back from behind to beat Sokoto state 2-1 (18-25, 25-21, 15-12).

Abia state beat Anambra 17-3 in the only girls’ handball game played on Wednesday before the heavy down pour at the outdoor sports complex of the University of Ilorin.
