The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season continued this weekend, and we saw some outstanding results across various centres. Here is a look at three major talking points from the interesting match day.
Relief for winless new boys
Before this match day, Barau FC were the only team in the NPFL this season without a win. However, things changed for them as they recorded their first win of the campaign at fellow newly promoted side Kun Khalifat in Aba on Sunday.
It was also the first game under the new General Manager, Dominic Iorfa. Ebuka Nwokorie put the home side in front in the 14th minute before the visitors rallied back with goals from Yahaya Ibrahim (brace) and Hillary Ekawu for a maiden win. It is a big relief for the Maliya boys ahead of forthcoming match days.
Silent moving Miners
Nasarawa United continued their brilliant start to life under head coach Mbwas Mangut with a routine 2-0 win over Katsina United in Lafia. The Solid Miners have been excellent in the league this term, and their third consecutive league win has propelled them to the top of the log with 13 points. It is still early days, but for a side that was in the relegation zone for most of last season, it is a massive improvement.
Late drama in Ozoro
Shooting Stars left it late against Warri Wolves at the Southern Delta University Main Bowl in Ozoro. It was another away game for the Oluyole Warriors – their sixth league game on a natural turf. Having laboured to a 2-1 win last time out, the Ibadan side came from a goal down to claim a victory over the Seasiders, who have remained winless since match day two.
Qamar Adegoke and Mustapha Adams’ goals completed the comeback after Igbunu Evwierhurhoma’s opener. It has been an awesome weekend for Ibadan following the coronation of the new Olubadan on Friday, and now the darling club’s first win on the road.
