A different week, a different drama in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), and it was another on Match Day Eight of the 2025/26 season.
It was another return of a full cast of fixtures, ahead of continental assignments for Rivers United and Remo Stars next weekend. As usual, here is a look at the three major talking points from the match day.
For the umpteenth time, chaos in Kano
It has been a good season with so many exciting happenings, but the latest development from Kano during the Kano Pillars v Shooting Stars clash has put a dent in the campaign as a whole. Pillars led in the game, but a late equalizer from the in-form Oluyole Warriors ensured they picked a point.
After the game ended, fans encroached the pitch, attacking the match officials and the away team. The incident led to multiple injuries for some of the players of Shooting Stars, as well as the match officials. A report also indicates that the General Manager of Kano Pillars, Ahmed Musa, could have been caught in the unfortunate incident.
Meanwhile, the league body has since released a preliminary statement on the matter. However, Sai Masu Gida fans are perennial unrepentant offenders, and fans and stakeholders are patiently waiting for the full verdict from the league body.
Unbeaten ends, KK enjoys winning feeling again
One of the two unbeaten sides left in the league this season – Enyimba – have been beaten. The People’s Elephants 1-0 fell to the newly promoted side at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. In a tight fixture between two teams, Stanley Eguma’s side were reduced to ten men in the first half after Henry Ndedi’s red card.
Ebuka Nwokorie, who is the season’s leading scorer, scored the winner 20 minutes from time with his fifth strike of the season. It is just the second time they have won a game in the NPFL this season.
Trademark Temitope
Plateau United’s Vincent Temitope has continued his fine form from where he left off last term, as he scored another worldie to help the Peace Boys beat Barau FC in Jos. It was an important game for Shola Adegun’s men, but the game was still evenly balanced at the break.
Following the game’s opening goal from Amietimi Enewarikpemi five minutes after the restart, Temitope curled one into the top right-hand corner just two minutes after coming off the bench. His last goal in the league was a carbon copy, and it is fast becoming his trademark.
See you again next week!
