Striker Sikiru Alimi could not hide his joy after scoring his first league goal for Shooting Stars in their 1-1 draw at Bendel Insurance on Sunday, www.aclsports.com reports.

Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) travelled to face the unbeaten Benin Arsenals on match day 17 of the 2023 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season played at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium. Ismael Sarki put the home side in front after the hour mark before Alimi struck home in the dying embers of the game to earn his side a point.

Alimi has endured a difficult start to his Shooting Stars career following a recurring calf injury before the start of the season and that delayed his involvement in games for Gbenga Ogunbote’s side. After recovery, he has now played eight of the last nine games for the Oluyole Warriors.

Speaking after the game in Benin, Alimi was happy to have ended the goal drought.

“I feel elated, very excited and very happy for scoring my first goal of the season. I have waited so long for this moment and thank God it finally came. I want to say congratulations to myself, my teammates, and our coaches. We really worked hard for this.

And on the result, the former Sunshine Stars forward had this to say; “The team’s image was at stake, so we needed it to keep pushing on because we really want to finish on a high, so we are grateful to God for this result.

Following the draw, the Ibadan side have now garnered 22 pts from 17 games ahead of their final game of the season at home against Enyimba next Sunday.
