Rangers International head coach, Fidelis Ilechuwku, has dismissed reports linking him with an exit from the Nigeria Premier Football League club, www.aclsports.com reports.
The tactician, who also serves as an assistant coach of the Super Eagles, has been away from the touchline since the aftermath of Nigeria’s failure to reach the 2026 World Cup. In Ilechukwu’s absence, Rangers’ first assistant coach, Ekeh Ekenedilichukwu, has been in charge.
The former MFM head coach, in his first pre-match press conference, has now cleared the air surrounding his future with the Flying Antelopes.
“You didn’t even ask me whether I usually go online to check whether they are writing anything about me,” Ilechukwu responded to a question about him leaving the club.
“I don’t know, there is a rumour. I think the general manager gets that. Sometimes, as a leader, if you go online and see things that is about you which are not the truth, you will decide not to check again, because they are fake. If you go there most times, it might disorganise you ahead of the next training session,” he added.
The former Heartland handler went ahead to disclose the only reason that would make him leave Rangers at the end of the season.
“All those things are not the truth because I have a contract with Rangers. In all the clubs I’ve worked, I finished my contract, and I’ve never been sacked anywhere. If I finish my contract, I will talk to him (club ceo Amobi Ezeaku) and leave on the note of giving others a chance. I don’t want to leave on the note of having issues with the club,” Ilechukwu concluded.
Ilechwukwu is now expected to return to the touchline for Rangers’ league game against Bayelsa United on Sunday in Enugu.
