Abia Warriors of Umuahia once again stumbled at home in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) on Wednesday, as they were held to a 1-1 draw by visiting Wikki Tourists in Umuahia, www.aclsports.com reports.
Imama Amapakabo-led side slumped to a defeat at the hands of Nasarawa United last Sunday, and they came into this mid-week clash looking to return to winning ways. However, Wikki Tourists worked hard to deny them the win as they secured a point on the road.
In the tight encounter at the Umuahia Township Stadium, third-placed Abia Warriors went in front through Emeka Obioma six minutes after the restart, before former Warriors attacker, Taheer Abubakar, fired the visitors level just five minutes later. Warriors could not find the winning goal as they settled for another draw at home. The home side have now won just one of their past seven matches at home in the NPFL.
Crisis-hit Enyimba came from behind to draw 1-1 with second-placed Nasarawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium. The home side, having missed a spot-kick earlier, went in front through JoFrank Istifanus, his second goal in two games, but they were pegged back by Enyimba via Kalu Nweke’s spot-kick. The game eventually ended in a share of the spoils.
In Kano, former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa scored the winning goal to help Kano Pillars beat Katsina United. Vincent Temitope grabbed a brace to steer Plateau United to a 2-1 win over Rangers International in Jos. The win took Gbenga Ogunbote’s side out of the bottom four, while Rangers stay in fourth.
The remaining Matchday 23 fixtures will be played on Thursday, although the earlier scheduled encounter between Rivers United and El Kanemi Warriors has been postponed and will now take place on a later date.
