As the new Premier League season begins, a certain number of Nigerians, established Super Eagles stars, and an emerging prospect, are getting set to light up the new campaign.

From London to Nottingham to Brighton, the Nigerian slang, “Naija no dey carry last”, is still very much potent in Europe’s most-watched football league.

Our football writer, Samuel Areo, spotlights the Nigerian stars poised to thrill supporters with standout performances and decisive contributions in the 2025/26 season.

1. Calvin Bassey – Fulham

Bassey was one of the Super Eagles players who had a good run in the Premier League last season. The defender was formidable at the back for the Cottagers, and has established himself as one of the exciting left-footed CBs in the Premier League.

His constant availability makes him a valuable asset to Marco Silva’s team. Just some days back, he picked up his award for being Fulham Player of the Year. He did score against Manchester United at Old Trafford last season, and he will hoping to reach new heights in the new campaign as the London side target a place in Europe.

2. Ola Aina – Nottingham Forest

Undoubtedly, Nigeria’s best performer in the Premier League last term. His performances, earned him several accolades, as underdogs Nottingham Forest clinched a place in Europe against all odds.

The versatile full-back was solid defensively, contributed to his side’s attack, and a constant name in Nuno Espirito Santo’s starting XI. It was not surprising that the club decided to hand him a new deal after the season ended. He has the right-back role on lock down, and he is expected to make a mark in the new campaign.

3. Emmanuel Dennis – Nottingham Forest

Unlike Ola Aina, Emmanuel Dennis is a “forgotten man” at the City Ground. He has had loan spells in Turkey and Championship sides, Watford and Blackburn Rovers in the past three seasons.

The 27-year-old could be an asset for the Reds, but it remains to be seen whether he is going to make a mark in the squad, or he will be spending the season away from the City Ground once again.

4. Alex Iwobi – Fulham

One of the most experienced Super Eagles players in the Premier League at the moment. He has taken his game to another level at Fulham, and last season was special, as he finished the campaign with nine goals and six assists in the nation’s topflight.

The former Arsenal midfielder is known for his vision, passing, workrate and constant goal involvements, and that makes him a key member of Marco Silva’s side. He is 29 at the moment, and still going strong for club and country. It remains to be seen whether he can go a level higher in the new season.

5. Taiwo Awoniyi – Nottingham Forest

Completing a trio of Nigerians at Nottingham Forest is former Bundesliga star, Taiwo Awoniyi, who is known for his powerful runs and excellent finishing.

However, injuries have not been kind to him in the last couple of months, and that has seen him lose his place to Chris Wood – who was key to their European ticket run. Awoniyi will be hoping for better fitness this time in order to play a key role for the Reds in the 2025/26 season.

6. Frank Onyeka – Brentford

Frank “The Tank” spent last season on loan at Bundesliga side Augsburg, but he is now back with the Bees. However, things have changed at the club since the departure of manager Thomas Frank for Tottenham, Christian Norgaard for Arsenal, and Bryan Mbeumo for Manchester United.

Onyeka, known for his ball-winning ability and tactical intelligence, will look to get himself regular playing time in the new term.

7. Ahmed Abdullahi – Sunderland

Ahmed, known for his pace and finishing, joined the Black Cats last season. In what should be an interesting campaign for the Tyneside club, Ahmed is keen to make a mark if given the opportunity. By the way, he could even go ahead to become a revelation in the new season.

That’s the list of Nigerians to look out for in the Premier League this season.
