Nigerian players abroad, led by Paul Onuachu, dazzled for their respective clubs once again over the weekend, as Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi produced a man-of-the-match performance to lead his side to an important win, www.aclsports.com reports.
Paul Onuachu, who has been making the headlines with his performances at Trabzonspor, continued his fine form with the winning goal – his 17th of the season – to help his side beat Gaziantep away from home. Mohamed Bayo handed the home side the lead before Felipe Augusto and the former Southampton man turned things around for the visitors. Defender Chibuike Nwaiwu also featured for Trabzonspor.
Also in the Turkish Super Lig, Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi delivered a superb performance, scoring to inspire Beşiktaş to a 4-0 demolition of Göztepe. Meanwhile, Ibrahim Olawoyin played for 88 minutes in Rizespor’s 2-0 win over Kocaelispor. The win took Rize five points clear of the relegation zone.
In the Premier League, Alex Iwobi played a key role in helping his side, Fulham, beat Sunderland away from home 3-1. Having impressed in the FA Cup last weekend, the former Arsenal midfielder continued that same form on Sunday as he scored and assisted in the Cottagers’ win at the Stadium of Light. Compatriot Calvin Bassey also finished from start to finish, while Samuel Chukwueze was not listed.
Meanwhile, Tolu Arokodare missed a spot-kick as Wolverhampton Wanderers slumped to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. Midfielder Frank Onyeka was named the man of the match in Coventry City’s 2-0 win over West Brom in the English Championship. Frank Lampard’s men are at the top of the log as they continue their quest for a return to the Premier League.
In Spain, Akor Adams provided the match-winning assist for Djibril Sow’s composed finish, helping Sevilla secure a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Getafe in their La Liga Round 25 encounter at the Estadio Coliseum.
Meanwhile, apart from Onuachu and Iwobi, Ademola Lookman also scored, his first La Liga goal in Atletico Madrid’s comeback 4-2 win over Espanyol. The forward has only played 6 games for Atlético Madrid and has already scored in all possible competitions for the club this season.
