Nigeria targets World Para Badminton debut in South Korea

The Nigeria Para Badminton Federation has intensified efforts to make its debut at the the 11th BWF Para Badminton World Championships.

President of the Nigeria Para-Badminton Federation, Samuel Ekeoma, said that the championship would hold from September 5 to 10th at the City of Ulsan in South Korea.

“Nigeria is hoping to make the trip with four male athletes in WH2, SL3, SL4 and SU5 Male categories and two Female players IN WH1 and SL3 categories”.

“The Olympics games is the peak of every individual sports and Nigeria has the best African players. The World Para Badminton championship is part of our build up to Tokyo 2020 paralympic Games” Ekeoma said.

“The championship will expose our athletes just the way the Africa Championship did. My prayer is for private individuals and sector supporting the game for us to feature in the World Championship and other invitational tournament in the nearest future”.

“As we all know that Tokyo Games will be a historical event for Para Badminton athletes/officials since it will the 1st time Para Badminton will be included in the Games” he ended.

The Korea Badminton Association for the Disabled (KBAD) will host the 2017 para Badminton tournament another important step ahead of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games in which badminton will make its debut.

Africa Bronze medallist, Bello Oyebanji

Nigeria’s Bello Oyebanji won two bronze medals in the male’s singles SL3 and the double categories at the maiden International Africa Para-Badminton Championships last April in Kampala, Uganda.
