Nigeria bags 32 medals and 3rd place at CAA Championships

The Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) have released the final results of the U18 and U20 Championships which took place between April 16 and 20 in the Ivorian city of Abidjan.

A total of 644 athletes from 31 countries participated in the championships, with 311 (164 boys and 147 girls) athletes carting away with different medals.

Twenty-one records were broken in both the U18 and U20 categories.

In the U18 category (boys and girls), South Africa finished on top of the table, with a total of 32 medals – 18 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze.

Kenya emerged second with 17 medals – 6 gold, 6 silver and 5 bronze; followed by Nigeria in third position with 16 medals – 7 gold, 1 silver and 8 bronze.

In the U20 category, boys and girls, Kenya leads the lot with a total of 28 medals – 13 gold, 10 silver and 5 bronze.

South Africa came second with a total of 25 medals – 9 gold, 13 silver and 3 bronze, ahead of third-placed Nigeria with 16 medals – 7 gold, 1 silver and 8 bronze.

The next edition of the U18 and U20 Championships will be held in Malawi or Zambia in 2021. Officials of both nations are yet to confirm the events, according the Confederation of African Athletics.
