Former Enyimba midfielder Dare Mathew Olatunji has told www.aclsports.com he joined Georgian side FC Samtredia to win trophies and advance his career.

Mathew Olatunji was unveiled to the media by the club last week and the 25-year old made an impressive debut in Samtredia’s season opener against Telavi on Saturday.

Samtredia got their season off to a winning start, beating Telavi 1-0 with Olatunji in action for the full ninety minutes of the game.

“I feel excited coming over to Europe and joining a great club like FC Samtredia after many seasons in my country Nigeria,” said Olatunji to www.aclsports.com

Olatunji played for former African champions Enyimba between 2018 and 2021 before joining Shooting Stars at the start of the 2021/2022 season. The former Osun United star is now looking ahead to his first time in Europe.

“First of all, I’m looking forward to winning trophies with the club then we’ll wait and see what comes afterwards but for now my main focus is on doing well for the club FC Samtredia,” he added.

Mathew Olatunji hopes to help Samtredia win trophies, starting with the Georgian Erovnili Liga which the side last won in 2016. They will however have to first knock Dinamo Tbilisi who have dominated the league off their perch, to bring back the title to the Western part of the country.

He is expected to be in action once again when his team face the reigning champions Tbilisi in a Match Day 2 encounter at the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi.
