Super Falcons head coach Justin Madugu has been nominated for the 2025 Women’s Johan Cruyff Trophy, which honours the best coach in women’s football, www.aclsports.com reports.

The 61-year-old becomes the first Nigerian coach ever shortlisted for a Ballon d’Or-linked award.

Madugu’s nomination follows an unforgettable year in which he led Nigeria to victory at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Under his leadership, the Super Falcons completed an unbeaten campaign, coming from 2-0 down to defeat hosts Morocco in the final and claim a record-extending tenth continental title.

For his efforts, Madugu was named Best Coach of the Tournament, a recognition of his tactical brilliance and leadership during Nigeria’s triumphant run.
